Advice on Sleep and why is it so important

In this current crisis there will understandably be lots of anxiety around everyday living. This in turn is likely to affect your sleep and also your children’s.

There may be many questions that your child will want to ask about what is happening in the world, which may cause worry. Trying to ensure that these types of conversations are happening earlier on in the daytime – rather than bedtime – will be helpful to both you and your child.

It can also be easy in this current situation to let routine go out of the window. And while it’s important to relax boundaries in times of stress, it is helpful to maintain some kind of structure around daytime and nighttime – it promotes feelings of safety and stability – and hopefully it won’t be long before you are back at school and your normal day to day routine.

Quality sleep is essential for children’s growth and development. A decent night’s sleep will allow them to react more quickly to situations, have a more developed memory, learn more effectively and solve problems, plus it will make them less susceptible to colds, less irritable and better behaved!

Please see the resources on this page to help ensure a good nights sleep.
